Discussions with Victims of Nazi Persecution at the Faculty of Social Sciences
The Institute of International Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Living Memory for Students non-profit have been organizing meetings with witnesses of Nazi persecution. The originator of this idea is Dr. Vít Fojtek from the Department of American Studies.

Charles University Student Union Seals Partnership with the University of Iceland Student Union
The Charles University Student Union has started a partnership with the Student Union of the University of Iceland. In this past semester, visits of officials of both unions to the respective foreign universities took place. Our union was represented in Iceland by its chair Slaven Elčić, vice-chair Nelly Dederová, the ex-chair Olga Georgievová and its audit commissioner and one of the founders of the union, Martin Benda.

We Keep Overlooking the Processes That Divide Our Society
The Charles University Faculty of Science and the Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic have just released a book called Residential Segregation. The book aims to introduce the key issues of segregation to civil servants, non-profits, academics and the general public. Dr. Luděk Sýkora, one of the co-authors, shares the details.

President of the Czech Republic Appointed New Professors
Based on proposals by the academic and artistic committees submitted by Czech institutions of higher education, the President of the Czech Republic, Mr. Václav Klaus, appointed new professors. At the ceremony that took place at the reception halls of the Karolinum building on December 8, 2010, ten assistant professors from Charles University were appointed full professors.

A Unique Atlas of the Landscape of the Czech Republic Now in Print
The outstanding work contains 906 maps and 767 pieces of additional material, comprising the largest amount of data ever gathered in a single atlas of the Czech Republic. The atlas is now in print and was introduced to the public at a release event on November 30, 2010 in the foyer of the Geography Library of the Charles University Faculty of Science.

Two Baroque Paintings from Rector´s Reception Halls on Display at the Unique Karel Škréta Exhibition
A career-spanning exhibition of the work by the Czech Baroque painter Karel Škréta opened on November 26 at the Wallenstein Riding School and the Prague Castle Riding School. Out of almost 400 exhibits from Czech Republic and abroad, two prints and two oil paintings – Saint Catherine, patroness of philosophers, and Saint John of Patmos – were borrowed from Charles University.
