Rector of Charles University launched the annual Mene Tekel festival
This year's Mene Tekel festival focuses on the theme of intellectual resistance against totalitarian regimes. The ancient Karolinum, the headquarters of Charles University, was thus a perfect place for the launching ceremony.

Resolution of the 104th annual meeting of the General Assembly of the Czech Rectors Conference
The CRC remains disconcerted by the current state of state funding of public institutions of higher education. After months of negotiations with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the state funding was cut by 2,1% from the 2009 figure, but the average state grant per student is 9% lower than in 2007 and the state investments are also falling. The CRC is aware of the financial situation of the country and the need for savings, but it must point out the fact that cuts are being made in education, as opposed to other parts of the state budget. The CRC nevertheless appreciates the efforts of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports to raise higher education funding.

The Annual Iberoamerican Awards Ceremony
On February 17 the 15th annual Iberoamerican awards were handed out in the Patriots Hall of Charles University. The student competition is organized by the representatives of diplomatic missions of Iberoamerican countries registered in the Czech Republic, under the auspices of the first lady Mrs. Livia Klausová.

Treasures of the Pharaohs to be exhibited at the special exhibition by the Czech Institute of Egyptology
The Czech Institute of Egyptology of the Charles University Faculty of Arts is working on a new exhibition Treasures of the Pharaohs, based on the collections from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and other world-renowned museums, as well as the original research of Czech Egyptologists.

Competition to Address The Urbanistic Vision of Charles University in 2030
On January 28, management of the university met with representatives of the Student Union and the City Development Authority Prague to design the semester-long projects competition for the faculties and schools of architecture. The projects should address the urbanistic vision of the university in the period until 2030.

Charles University celebrates Bolzano Awards recipients
On January 28, 2010, during the Charles University Research Comittee meeting in the Small Hall of Karolinum, the annual Bolzano Award ceremony took place. Six students received the award for excellent theses written during their studies at Charles University. Among the criteria of the awards are the creative approach and interdisciplinary nature of the work. The awards are handed out in three categories: social sciences and humanities including theology, science, and medicine.

Study and Information Services Centre of the library of the Faculty of Arts introduced to students Yesterday's introduction of the new Study and Information Services Centre of the library of the Charles University Faculty of Arts brought an end to the difficult four-year process of the ambitious reconstruction. “I started to think the library to be cursed, but now I can see we reached our goal. It was a long ride and by no means easy, but now we can see it was worth it”, said the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Michal Stehlík, Ph.D.
