Erasmus Plus: The Next Stage of Europe’s Erasmus Programme

2014 will see the birth of the next stage in the European Union’s Erasmus programme, one that is the most comprehensive and ambitious yet. Succeeding the Lifelong Learning Programme, which ran from 2007 to 2014, will be the Erasmus Plus programme, and like all previous Erasmus programmes, will last 7 years ending in 2020.

The Inauguration of Rector Prof. MUDr. Tomáš Zima, DrSc., MBA

On the 4th of March, 2014, Charles University of Prague and a number of other academic and personal supporters gathered in a farewell to former rector, Prof. RNDr. Václav Hampl, DrSc. and in celebration of our new Rector, Prof. MUDr. Tomáš Zima, DrSc., MBA. Steeped in historical tradition and ceremony, the inauguration was highly successful in celebrating these two men and the institution they devote themselves to. I personally walked away with a proud sense of our flourishing institution’s academic integrity and commitment, even as a temporary member of this inspiring community.

Charles University hosted a topical discussion on the effectiveness of representative democracy on February 27th.  The central concepts were focused on the on-going crisis in which world political systems are facing in retaining core values of participation and active representation.

iForum has won the national round of the Charlemagne Youth Prize

Charles University’s online magazine iForum has won the national round of the Charlemagne Prize for Young Europeans 2014. Every year the winner is selected by a jury from projects that support a shared feeling for the creation of a European identity and integration amongst young people. The overall winner will be announced on 10 April.

Civil Rights in the USA. A Fulbright Lecture

“Students of Prague University 1882-1945”, a new digitalisation project, is underway, aimed at digitalising old Charles University documents pertaining to staff and students. Some of this is for the creation of a new app run by the university, enabling users to search for old doctorates.
