CU backs National Technical Museum fundraiser

Charles University, together with the Ministry of Culture Czech Republic, the Czech Philharmonic and Prague City Hall, are officially supporting a donation drive organised by the National Technical Museum to help raise funds for the rebuilding of Paris’ Notre-Dame Cathedral.

The roof of the cathedral was engulfed by flames on April 15, 2019.

Firefighters’ bravery and quick response had been critical in saving much of the gothic masterpiece; afterwards the French authorities confirmed the entire building had been 15–30 minutes away from complete destruction. The 850-year-old cathedral’s spire and roof were lost in the fire but its iconic twin bell towers survived.

On April 23 at 9:10 PM, the Czech Philharmonic in cooperation with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, and performers from the National Theatre and State Opera, will perform Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater at a benefit concert at the Rudolfinum Concert Hall. Tomáš Netopil of the Czech Philharmonic will conduct. Proceeds from the concert will be added to the funds raised.

The concert will be broadcast live by public broadcaster Czech TV, Czech Radio’s Vltava, and the French TV station France Culture.
