4 April 2011

The Hradec Králové Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with the Museum of East Bohemia have put together an exhibition documenting the visit of the President of Czechoslovakia Dr. Edvard Beneš and his wife to the city of Hradec Králové. President Beneš paid an unofficial visit to the faculty 65 years ago en route to the Čapek celebrations in the village of Malé Svatoňovice.

“We are happy to be able to present these unique photographs to the broad public on the occasion of the anniversary of the visit,” its organizer, PhDr. Pavel Nečas said. The exhibition, titled The Visit of President Edvard Beneš to the Charles University Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, features 42 photographs and scans of period newspapers documenting the President’s stay in Hradec Králové on June 30, 1946.

The series of photographs were taken by Vilém Petr (1901–1970) whose father had opened a photographic shop in Hradec Králové at the start of the 20th century. The pictures on display were selected from Vilém Petr’s photographic estate now owned by the Museum of East Bohemia in Hradec Králové.

The exhibition is located on the first floor of the Faculty of Medicine building, Šimkova 870, Hradec Králové. It is open to the public Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to midday until April 30, 2011.
