Overcoming the Deadlock: Climate Policy after Copenhagen International Seminar

Prague, March 3, 2010

PRESS RELEASE

Envisioned and proposed by prof. Bedřich Moldan, member of the Czech Senate and director of the Charles University's Environment Center, the Overcoming the Deadlock: Climate Policy after Copenhagen seminar took place on March 3, 2010 in the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, attracting great attention of the experts on environment.

Representatives of European countries and institutions and Czech experts from governmental institutions, NGOs and businesses reflected upon the questions and outcomes of the December's Copenhagen Conference. They also discussed which way the international negotiations on climate change should take and what the roles of the particular key players, political organizations and the transatlantic partnerships should be. Other topics included the effects of the Copenhagen Accord on the Czech economy and the energy industry.

“The lack of discussion about climate change in Czech politics makes me very sad. I am glad that this seminar helped open the discussion of this topic in the Czech Republic”, said Senator Moldan in his closing remarks.

The seminar was organised by the Environment Center of Charles University and the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Foundation, in cooperation with the Committee on Public Administration, Regional Development and the Environment of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
