The Third Annual Student Fair Festival Is Coming Up

8. 9. 2011, by Markéta Havelková, Charles University Student Union, Section: students

On Thursday, October 6, the third instalment of the annual student festival will be launched at Ovocný Trh (or the Fruit Market in English) in the heart of Prague, close to the Karolinum building. The festival, organized by the Charles University Student Union and supported by the university, will once again welcome both new and returning students to the new academic year. Everybody will be in for a wide range of cultural and other experiences.

“This year’s Student Fair will see a step up in scale – for the first time, it will take place at Ovocný Trh,” says Markéta Havelková, the chairman of the Student Union. “There will be many things happening during the first week of classes, including orientation seminars organized by the Information and Advisory Centre and a launch of a new information website. There you will find everything you need in order to enjoy your Charles University experience.”

The event itself starts at 1pm. Throughout the afternoon, the student bands Last Station, Vagyny dy Praga and City of Autumn will play their sets, followed by the professional bands Chancers, Notes From Prague, Navigators and Niceland. The event will be moderated by Radovan Klučka. Around twenty student associations will set up booths to present their activities. The Rector of Charles University, along with the two representatives of the student life, the “King of Charles University” Jan Šmejkal and Miss Charles University, Eliška Černá, will also attend.

The event will officially close at 10pm, but as every year, an after party will start at 9pm at the Chapeau Rouge club, where first-year students will undergo an unofficial, but thorough version of the immatriculation ceremony. The electro band NANO will performed, followed by a DJ set. The first 200 students will get a RedBull Energy Shot welcome drink for free, prices for drinks will be student-friendly (a beer for 28 CZK, rum and coke for 49 CZK).
