Prague: The Experience of a Lifetime

28 March 2011

Prague is amazing.  It is one of the most fantastic cities I have ever visited. It is beautiful. It is romantic. It is friendly. It is cost-effective. Mezipatra, the international film festival, was the experience of a lifetime. I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world at this festival. I saw groundbreaking films. I met actors, directors, scholars, etc. I met some of the most phenomenal students (at Charles University) with which I have ever studied. The cultural experience of Prague is second to none. The students in the program are extremely smart.  I was able to connect with them and discuss feminism, LGBT activism, transnational film, etc. They generously showed me everything there is to see about the city. I went to great restaurants, landmarks, night clubs, and historic locations. Prague has everything I could ever want in a city. It is definitely on my list of cities to visit the next time I go to Europe. This experience profoundly enriched my academic experience. At the end of the semester, the US students and I put on a public symposium and presented everything we learned in Prague at George Washington University. It was a great way to bond with my classmates. The Czech students became family to me, just as the US students did in Washington, DC.  Any GW student would be likely to experience this journey in Prague.  I learned more in my one week in Prague than I have learned in most classes in a semester.  I hope that the US students can host them in Washington, DC, in the future.  The experience was extremely meaningful, and the memories will last a lifetime.
