Prague: The Experience of a Lifetime
Prague is amazing. It is one of the most fantastic cities I have ever visited. It is beautiful. It is romantic. It is friendly. It is cost-effective. Mezipatra, the international film festival, was the experience of a lifetime. I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world at this festival. I saw groundbreaking films. I met actors, directors, scholars, etc. I met some of the most phenomenal students (at Charles University) with which I have ever studied. The cultural experience of Prague is second to none.

US Ambassador Norman Eisen Uncovers Records of His Czechoslovak Ancestors
On Wednesday, March 23, 2011, the US Ambassador Norman Eisen paid a visit to the Malach Visual History Centre at the Charles University Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The director of the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and founder of the Malach Centre, Prof. RNDr. Jan Hajič, Dr., told Mr Eisen about the Centre’s history as well as the archive containing 52,000 interviews with Holocaust survivors.

A wheelie good day out for disabled participants in the PIM marathon
A child in a wheelchair, in a marathon race sounds tough, but thanks to Scott Keel more and more handicapped children can enjoy the feeling of passing the finish line in the PIM marathon. Scott and a group of medical students will be pushing strollers in the marathon and half marathon and there is still time to join in the training.

Swimmer Simona Baumrtová: I’m Afraid of the Sea
So says the current best woman swimmer in the Czech Republic and a 1st year student of the Charles University Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Simona Baumrtová will not encounter any sea creatures in the chlorinated water of competition swimming pools, but given the speed in which she zooms through the masses of water, she might easily outswim them. In any case, she is one of the very best women swimmers in her category, both in Europe and in the world.

Petra Uhlíková: The Rational Mind Cannot Do It Alone (On Risks and Prevention of Eating Disorders)
Between March 3 and March 5, 2011, the Charles University 1st Faculty of Medicine and the Psychiatry Clinic of the General Teaching Hospital will host the 8th International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Eating Disorders. The conference is organized in collaboration with INTACT, an Marie Curie international project that brings together nine Centers of Excellence from EU countries.

Faculty of Pharmacy´s Jan Röder Becomes President of 350,000 Pharmacy Students
Last summer, Jan Röder, a fifth year student of the Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy, was elected president of the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF). He became the first student from the former Eastern bloc to lead the international organization, that brings together more than 350,000 students of pharmacy from 86 countries.
