Statement of Charles University on rigorosum thesis of Mr. Andreas Scheuer
Charles University in Prague
Ovocný trh 5,
Prague 1, 116 36
Charles University hereby states that it is currently reviewing the circumstances under which the academic title of PhDr. was awarded to Andreas Scheuer in 2004.
Suspicions have recently been raised in the media that Mr. Scheuer’s essay was plagiarised. The information from which the media infer that the essay was plagiarised (acceptance without proper stating of sources in text published by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education in cooperation with the University of Münster), was non-public and unknown to Charles University at the time at which the title was granted.
Charles University is currently undertaking its own review to verify whether or not this new information is true. The thesis and records of Mr. Scheuer’s rigorosum examination were retrieved from the archive on the morning of Monday 20 January and the essay itself digitalised in the course of the day in order for it to be examined using anti-plagiarism software. The results of this examination shall be available on Tuesday 21 January 2014. Should Charles University’s own review find that the essay was plagiarised, the entire matter shall immediately be passed on to the CU Ethics Committee for further discussion.
