100 m hurdles/ Start of 4-floor tower climb

On May 4, 2011, Ostrava hosted the First International Academic Fire Fighting Games. Organized by the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava in cooperation with the Association of Firefighters of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia under the auspices of the deputy mayor of Ostrava, the contest took place on the premises of the Fire Rescue Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region in Ostrava-Poruba.

Participants competed in eight events. Individuals, both men and women, competed in the 100 metres hurdles and only men took part in the 4-floor tower climb with a hook ladder. Team events included 4 x 100 metres hurdles relays (men’s, women’s, and co-ed with at least one woman) and fire attack (men and women). 118 students from 13 universities took place in the first academic championship. Students who took the first six places scored points for the competition of universities.

Students from Charles University represented the following faculties: the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport – Petr Hraško, Kristina Juretzková, Miroslava Mikulová, Ladislav Roučka, Klára Šenkyříková, Barbora Šubrtová, Alena Tesařová, Radek Vitovský, Šárka Vlachová; the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics – Martin Kozák, Radim Navrátil; the Faculty of Science – Jan Bartoš, Vojtěch Svárovský; the Third Faculty of Medicine – Lucie Dostálová; and the Law Faculty – Andrea Červenková.

In the competition of universities our students placed third with 28 points, behind the gold VŠB Ostrava which scored 51 points, and a mere 3 points behind the University of Ostrava which came second with 31 points. In individual events, the women’s relay team scored the first precious points having taken second place, and the men’s relay team came third. In the fire attack event both men and women placed second.
