Faculties to assume responsibility for specialized medical education as of 2012
On October 24, the Charles University Rector along with representatives of Masaryk University and Palacký University signed a statutory contract with the Health Minister on the transfer of postgraduate medical education onto faculties of medicine. As of January 1, 2012, seven medical faculties will thus assume responsibility for the specialized education of physicians and dentists.

Student fair is back on the market. The “Fruit Market”
The informal festival “Jarmark” (or Fair in English) organized by the Charles University Student Union with the support of Charles University is a regular feature in the calendar of university events. For the first time this year the stands as well as a music stage were situated just outside the Estates Theatre on Prague’s Ovocný trh (or Fruit Market in English). As every year, the festival belonged to students who are interested in the happenings at the university and who wish to participate in its activities.

And what better way to celebrate it than with sports. The Podolí boatyard again offered a wide range of activities this year – canoes, a catamaran, a motor boat, adapted bicycles and table tennis.

The Third Annual Student Fair Festival Is Coming Up
On Thursday, October 6, the third instalment of the annual student festival will be launched at Ovocný Trh (or the Fruit Market in English) in the heart of Prague, close to the Karolinum building. The festival, organized by the Charles University Student Union and supported by the university, will once again welcome both new and returning students to the new academic year. Everybody will be in for a wide range of cultural and other experiences.

Establishing contact with patients is very important for me, says would-be doctor
Ivana Čopová divides her free time between her boyfriend and little patients at the Motol University Hospital. She says she learns a lot from them, she likes playing with them and admits teenagers are more difficult to get along with. “The children sometimes seem to know more about their illness than we, would-be doctors do,” says the student of the Charles University 2nd Faculty of Medicine who has been working for the Volunteer Centre at the Motol University Hospital for more than two years now and is planning a stay in Africa for next year.
